"This piece was initially going to be about the phases of life," Bryce explains, "but it turned into a piece about longing. About missing someone you love. At the core of our being, we are social animals. We seek out companionship with friends and family. We also seek out that someone who will deeply and truly love us physically, romantically, and emotionally. When we have that, and subsequently lose it, an empty space is left behind, but it's not completely empty. If it were, we wouldn't keep longing for that person.
"This piece makes me think of my earlier painting, 'The Human Heart.' It's simple in content, but the art combined with the title really hits home with those people who have experienced unrequited love. It's always worse at night when you're alone in the dark. It's hard to remember that the dawn is coming soon."
