With “Internal Light,” Rusul explores consciousness and thought creation. At the bottom layer of this piece is the deepest level. From our own creativity and the many voices of the people who impact us, a thought begins.
The violinist is the thought springing forth, with good and bad interlaced, and being pulled upwards by the tree of wisdom. The keys falling from the tree unlock the opportunity contained within the thought.
As it reaches this next level, we begin internal discussion and deliberation. The pairs on the right and left are emotional, debating and arguing the pros and cons of the thought, and the pair in the middle is the rational decision-making process of whether to verbalize the thought.
The final level is the announcement of the thought. The Japanese cranes are sounding the idea, out into the world, and those around us now have the thought and it can now be acted upon.
