On March 9, 2021, Bryce painted 'Hematoma,' a colorful version of Michelangelo's 'David' statue. 'Year One' was completed on the one-year anniversary of 'Hematoma,' and is a repeat of the subject matter, with similar markings.

"I wanted to show my growth over the first year, and I thought it would be a cool idea to do essentially a recreation of 'Hematoma,'" says Bryce. "I think of 'Hematoma' as the first piece of my professional painting career, and that means 'Year One' is my 59th. This piece shows significant growth, with David's emotion being so much more intense in this piece. It will be interesting to see what my work looks like in another year from now, when I'm hopefully wrapping up my 159th."
